Build your own smoothie with Früt

Früt is the home of the smoothie, providing frozen fruit and related healthy ingredients for the ultimate smoothie. Here’s what you need:

Liquid

Start off with one to two cups of liquid. This should go into the blender first to surround the blade and make the blending process easier. You can choose whichever liquid you like, depending on dietary requirements and flavour combinations. Options include:

  • Water
  • Dairy Milk
  • Soy Milk
  • Almond and Coconut Milk
  • Fruit Juices
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Yoghurt

Fruits & Vegetables

When adding fruits and vegetables just remember that:

  • The more frozen fruits/vegetables you use, the less ice you will need.
  • The juicier the fruits/vegetables you use are, the less liquid you will need to add.

Bananas are a popular choice as they help to thicken the smoothie and provide a neutral taste that goes well with most everything. Feel free to experiment with your own favorite fruits and you will soon realise which ones contribute to the taste and texture of the smoothie in ways that you like.

Extras

The extra ingredients you add (although not at all necessary) will both help to flavour and thicken the smoothie, as well as give your smoothie a higher nutritional content. Here are the most common choices:

  • Whey Powder
  • Wheat Grass
  • Barley Grass Powders
  • Spirulina
  • Vitamin Powders
  • Fibre and other supplements in powder form
  • Spices, flavour extracts and sweeteners
  • Ice Cream and dairy creamer
  • Nut butters
  • Chia and Flax Seeds
  • Oats

Ice

If you have more fresh fruit than frozen fruit you may want to add a few extra ice cubes to give the smoothie a cooler temperature and thicker texture.

How to Blend

Place half of the liquid into liquidiser first, then the fruits and vegetables and then top up  with rest of liquid (this method protects the blender).

Blend the ingredients until the liquid is fully circulating within the blender for at least 5 to 10 seconds. This means that all the contents have been liquified. The liquid at the top should be swirling and diffusing back down to the bottom. It can take up to 45 seconds for this to happen depending on the power of your motor and how full the blender is.

Make sure you don’t have too much in your blender or you will never achieve proper circulation, even with the most powerful motor! You’ll need to put in just enough so your blender can achieve proper liquid circulation in about 30 to 45 seconds.
